Killed in action, in Sector 10, landmine. Lt Steven Hansen and a section of engineers were busy with landmine sweeping in the Odila area. They had found tracks and then traced these tracks backwards to sweep any landmines planted in these tracks. Swapo had set up a cheesemine bound with cortex to 3 British Mk7 mines and this was set off by their buffel. |
Additional Information: |
Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Hansen. Whilst on a vehicle patrol from Okankolo north-east along the Odilla river bed, the Buffel that Lt Hansen was in hit two landmines. The two mines under the vehicle were initiated by one in the track. A hole was punched directly through the base of the vehicle which then caught fire from the fuel tanks. The resulting explosion killed Lt Hansen. |
