Killed in action, missing Candia, in Martin Baltimore Mk III #FA471. T/o 0615, LG 07/'Z' LG/Matruh West, Egypt. One of two Baltimores on a long range shipping reconnaissance of Iraklion (Candia) Bay, Crete, Greece. Attacked at 0812 hrs, by five Me 109 fighters off Dhia Island, Crete. This aircraft was last seen heading 040 and flying into low cloud. Failed to return to base, almost certainly shot down by these fighters. |
