LG Sup 12 February 1942 pg. 705 - "On July 10, 1941 during the attack on the road block south of Khalde his platoon came under severe fire from enemy machine guns, situated North of orchard. He volunteered to go forward through the orchard, locate the posts and then lead his section through. By his immediate appreciation of this situation he was instrumental in getting his section into the orchard and cleaning out the enemy positions in this vicinity. After this he came to the buildings about the road block and went to the roof and spotted for posts. He fired his Bren Gun into the posts immediately in front and pushed the enemy back. About 1700 hours he crossed the road under machine gun fire crept around to enemy posts on the beach that were lateral to road block and by a great feat with a Tommy Gun firing from the left hand cleared the posts. By doing this the area from the beach road block and through to Yellow Cliff feature east of block was in our hands." |
