Torpedoed and sunk by U-181. En route from Kosseir & Aden to Durban, South Africa. At 17.40 hours on 2 Dec, 1942, the unescorted Amarylis was hit amidships by a G7a torpedo from U-181 and sank within 2 minutes after breaking in two. The Germans questioned six survivors on a raft and on this opportunity took a drowning sheep aboard for fresh meat. 16 crew and 2 DEMS gunners lost |
