Died in Aircraft Accident, Wellington III, BK549, based at RAF Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire. At 1833 hrs they left Bruntingthorpe for a night-time 'bullseye' exercise. The Vickers Wellington bomber, flown by Rhodesian Sgt Robertson, crashed near Basingstoke, Hampshire at 2253 hours following a fire in the starboard engine. The whole crew of six perished. |
