Killed in action, Lancaster DV280 JO-S, took off from RAF Waddington as part of a force of 123 aircraft to attack the synthetic oil plant at Scholven-Buer in the Ruhr valley. DV280 was shot down at a height of 16,000 ft over the Uden-Heimond area by a night fighter who also shot down a Lancaster from 57 Squadron, NN696, on the same night. F/O. Kenneth Forth survived the crash and became a prisoner of war. The rest of the crew, including Harry were killed and are all buried in Uden War Cemetery, Netherlands. |

Son of Harry Lucas Raynham and Johannah Louisa Raynham, of Lobatsi, Bechuanaland. Born "The Fort", Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. Harry, known to family and friends as "Freddie" was the last of four children, his father having left England as a young man and married Johanna, a local girl from Graaff-Reinet, South Africa in 1903.
