Killed in action, FIRCREST SS was a British Cargo Steamer of 5,394 tons built in 1907. On the 25th August 1940 when on route from Wabana, Conception Bay - Halifax - Middlesbrough in Convoy HX-65A carrying a cargo of 7,900 tons of iron ore she was torpedoed by German submarine U-124 23 miles north of the Butt of Lewis, Hebrides and sunk. There were no survivors from the FIRCREST (Master Russell Helton Tuckett Obe), the master and 38 crew members were lost |
