Killed in action, Stirling LJ540, airborne from Wigsley for a long night navigation and bombing exercise at the Bassingham ranges. Whilst in the range area, shot down at 0125 by Me410 intruder thought to be from 2/KG51. Aircraft crashed at Hilltop Farm, Caythorpe. The farmer, Mr Theaker, erected a memorial at the crash site. |
