Son of Robert and Elisabeth Irvine Mowat (nee Hunter), of Glasgow, Scotland. Attended University of Glasgow. From The Scotsman 21 October 1916 - Captain George Mowat, South African Contingent, was a son of Robert Mowat, JP, 42 Buchanan Drive, Cambuslang. He was educated at Garnethill School, Glasgow, and graduated MB, CH at Glasgow University. On the outbreak of the Boer War he was accepted for and was twice mentioned in dispatches. At the conclusion of the war, he returned to Cambuslang, and later settled in Johannesburg as a medical practitioner. On the outbreak of the present war he volunteered for combatant service, and took part in the campaign in German South-West Africa. He was afterwards gazette Captain. He was 43 and unmarried. |
