LG Sup 19 March 1942 pg. 1263 - "For courage and devotion to duty when acting as stretcher bearer during the operations at Pith Cairn (Salum) on 11 and 12 January 1942. Six wounded men had to evacuated and in order to reach them Pte. Moran and Pte. Barker had to cross ground well within small arms range during a period of heavy machine gun and rifle fire. The ambulance was fired on and disabled. Wounded men were then carried to shelter in an adjoining wadi. On the morning of 12th Moran assisted in the recovery of the ambulance, towing it back to safety. During the period covered by the acts specified firing was continuous and unit vehicles dared not go forward to the position held. The energy and coolness displayed by this man was an example to all especially to non-European stretcher bearers." |
