Killed in action, Lancaster III JB453, on the night of 2nd Janaury 1944, they set out in a ninety-mile-an-hour gale on a special mission over Berlin, and, having achieved their objective, were on the way home when the wireless operator sent out a message stating that they were taking ice at 8000 ft and could not make base. The last news heard of the crew was that they were ready to bale out. Death was presumed on 3rd January 1944. |

Ex-Cadet of the South African Training Ship General Botha. Cadet Draft 1937-8. In 1940 Denis James McKEndry joined the RAF and was eventually posted to the position of navigator in a Lancaster bomber, 83 Squadron, as Flying Officer. |
