Son of James and Molly McGarva; husband of Phyllis Elaine McGarva, of Franklin, Cape Province, South Africa. Born Ayr, Ayrshire. In his teenage years he was a member of the 4th Ayr Company of the Boys' Brigade. Leslie. He emigrated to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. Enlisted with the 78th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. His Regiment was attached to the 6th Armoured Division in February 1943. Commemorated on Civic War Memorial in Ayr and the Family Memorial in Ayr Cemetery. His sister Miss Edith McGarva died in 2016.
