Served in Southern Rhodesia Volunteers. 1st Rhodesia Regiment: No. 133, attested 20 October 1914 in Bulawayo as Colour Sergeant. Demobbed 31 July 1915 when 1RR was disbanded. Saw active war service in German South West Africa from 22 December 1914 to 26 July 1915.Commissioned 12 October 1915 in 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. ref.
