Killed in action, Liberator B24J Mk VI #KH152, 8 crew (1 RAF and 2 RAFVR), shot down near Krakow, Poland while en route to drop supplies to Polish Home Army Partisans in Warsaw, Poland. A local farmer reported that Lt Lithgow managed to parachute from the plane but fractured both his legs when landing. He further reported that when Lithgow was discovered by a German patrol, he was promptly shot.
