Information:
Son of William Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Austen; husband of Audrey May Jeffrey, who perished with him. Born Port Nolloth. Educated at Boys' High School, Beaufort West. Apprenticed to the Prince Line in 1929 gaining his Second Mate's Certificate in 1932. During WW2 he joined the RNR as Lieutenant. On the 2nd December 1942 while returning to Durban, together with his wife on the Ceramic to take up an appointment for the Admiralty, the ship was torpedoed and sunk by enemy action.
