Cause of Death: |
Killed in action, during attack of second battle of Alamein. The ILH advance continued behind a terrific barrage and the enemy wire was found already blown by shell-fire. Until the last 600 yds of their advance, the battalion met little opposition, but then after they had made their way through an anti-personnel minefield and Capt Jacobs' company was consolidating, he and a small detachment went forward to reconnoitre. While under enemy mortar and anti-tank fire, Capt. Jacobs was shot and killed by rifle fire from a German anti-tank position not 20 yds away from him. |
