ENGELA CEMETERY, OSHIKANGO A 4 x 4 vehicle is necessary on the sand track from the school to the cemetery - otherwise walk. The signposted turn off to Engela is 6 km from the Oshikango border post on the Ondangwa road. Follow this road for 1.3 km, turn left onto the dirt track and proceed 0.7 km to the school. Go past the school buildings and follow the definite sand track for 350 paces to the cemetery. The grave is close to the corner directly opposite the entrance. HAULU, Private, H, N/48372. Son of Haulo and Shinoango Hilannje GROOTFONTEIN CEMETERY The cemetery, which is owned by the municipality, is situated next to and is visible from the road, which leads to the airport and military base. The 6 war graves are scattered in the old section. One of the Commonwealth graves was brought in from Okamukauti. GROUWATER FARM BURIAL GROUND, REHOBOTH The grave is situated on the farm Grouwater which is 12 km (on a rough track) from Klein Aub which is 84 km from Rehoboth. It is recommended that the Secretary, SA Agency, be approached for a plan as it is difficult to find. VAN WYK, Private, K, C/319893. Cape Corps, S.A. Forces. 12th January 1946. Age 31. Son of Arie and Hanna van Wyk KARIBIB CEMETERY The cemetery, which is no longer in use, is situated on a private farm but maintained by the Karibib municipality. Travel 0.7 km from the police station in the direction of Usakos, and turn in at the sign 'Farm Karibib No.54'. The walled cemetery is visible from the farmhouse and the South African and German graves are scattered. Karibib surrendered early in May 1915 and became the chief hospital centre on the Lines of Communication. Two of the battlefield graves were brought in from Albrechtshohe and five from Otjimbingwe. Follow the main road from the power station in the direction of Botswana for 0.7 km, turn left into Trollip Street for 0.1 km, turn right at the school for 0.4 km and the graves are in the lawn of the house set back from the street. KEETMANSHOOP MUNICIPAL CEMETERY The 28 South African and German graves are scattered in the old walled section of the cemetery, which is owned by the municipality. Follow 5th Avenue (the main street) and turn into Kaiser Street (which becomes Stamprieter Road) in the direction of the Grunau - Windhoek Road. The cemetery is at the junction with 1st Avenue. Keetmanshoop surrendered to the Southern Forces on the 20th April 1915. Two of the graves were brought in after the Armistice. BOUWER, Private, J L, 787. The cemetery is situated in the Otjohorongo tribal area in Damaraland 110 km from Omaruru. From Omaruru take Uis road for 7.4 km, turn right and follow the road for 58.5 km to Omatjette. Turn right and follow the road for 19 km to Otjohorongo. Ask for directions and possibly a guide here, or consult the Secretary, SA Agency prior to the visit. HIANGUTI, Private, WILLIAM, N/45847. Follow Omeg Allee in the direction of Grootfontein, turn right into Reinhold Shilongo Street up the 5 way junction, then left and next right into Leevi Muashakele Street for 1.1 km then left into Otjikoto Street which leads to the cemetery. The graves have common kerbing. These casualties were originally buried in a section of the Tsumeb Cemetery but exhumed and reinterred (apparently without the knowledge of the Commission) in 1969.
