PLOVDIV CENTRAL CEMETERY
Plovdiv Central Cemetery - Photo © Ralph McLean Plovdiv is a city on the main road from Sofia to Istanbul. Plovdiv Central
Cemetery is about 1 kilometre from the city centre, within the city limits,
and on the same road to Istanbul (the Liljana Dimitrova Road). The Commonwealth
servicemen buried at Plovdiv Central Cemetery died either as prisoners
of war or while serving with the occupying forces following the Bulgarian
capitulation in September 1918. The Commonwealth plot was formed when
graves were brought in from other cemeteries. The cemetery now contains
55 Commonwealth burials of the First World War. SOFIA WAR CEMETERY
Sofia War Cemetery - Photo © Ralph McLean Sofia War Cemetery is part of Sofia Protestant Cemetery, which is a section of the main town cemetery. It is located 2 kilometres north of the railway station. The Project Director was there in 2003 photographing other graves. He suggests checking in at the south-eastern gate and asking for assistance. The CWGC plot is alongside the German plot in the North-eastern part of the cemetery.
